Draft Dubbo City Events Strategy

Public exhibition period closes 5pm, 3 February 2012

Why do we need an events strategy?
A strategic approach can better position Dubbo to cultivate economic, social and cultural opportunities through supporting and developing existing events, and attracting and retaining new events.

The development of an events strategy will help the City tap into its potential as an ‘event and conference destination’. It will also provide a clearer framework around how Dubbo City Council – as a local government body – manages event support, develops its own events and how it goes about attracting even more events and conferences that will benefit the City.

Who developed the draft Dubbo City Events Strategy?
The Strategy has been developed by Council and the community, and facilitated by external consultants.

Council, at its November 2010 meeting, resolved to establish a working party to participate in and guide the development of the Dubbo City Events Strategy. The working party includes representation from:

  • Dubbo City Council NSW Industry and Investment
  • Dubbo Chamber of Commerce
  • Dubbo Tourism Action Group
  • Community (DREAM Festival)

What is the purpose of the Strategy?
The draft Dubbo City Events Strategy is a plan of action to assist Dubbo City Council in attracting and retaining events. It will also provide the framework for Council to support existing events and assist in the growth of new events in the City. Such a Strategy will pave the way forward for Council and the community.

The draft Dubbo City Events Strategy is created around three core goals:

  • GOAL 1: Support development and sustainability of the local event industry
  • GOAL 2: Guide the development of an inclusive, vibrant, sustainable events program
  • GOAL 3: Position Dubbo as a premier events destination.
