BUSINESSES CAN GO GREEN WITH FOGO SERVICE

Local businesses within the Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) local government area are encouraged to go green with a food organics and garden organics (FOGO) service for their commercial premises.

The FOGO commercial service is essentially the same as the residential kerbside collection however, businesses can sign up for multiple services a week and/or select servicing days to handle the volumes created by the commercial business.

“The FOGO commercial service is an opportunity for business to help divert waste from landfill and reduce their waste costs,” said Dubbo Regional Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer, Hamish Campbell.

“If your business deals with high volumes of organic products they can make a financial saving by utilising a FOGO service to remove this waste instead of a red-lid bin service.”

The FOGO commercial service has been available since the FOGO service commenced in Dubbo in 2018. Since the service commenced 67 businesses and organisations have signed up to utilise the service. This includes small businesses, government offices, early learning centres, community organisations and churches.

“Being able to divert more and more organics from landfill is a win-win for the community and the environment with the added bonus of the organic matter being transformed into compost,” said Mr Campbell.

Bourke St Butchery and The Butcher’s Wife Café were one of the first businesses in the Dubbo Region to sign up to the commercial FOGO service when it commenced and have been using the service ever since.

“We have six FOGO bins now and they are collected twice a week through the FOGO business service,” said Bourke St Butchery and The Butchers Wife Café owner, Lexi Pearson.

“Whilst the butchery predominately uses the FOGO service since we have added The Butchers Wife Café to our commercial business, we have also used the service for any organic waste from the café.”

“Previously we had a skip bin which was not ideal as the smell was problematic however now we don’t have that issue with the regular FOGO collection service,” said Ms Pearson.
