Street Lighting
Street lighting is a vital community asset that keeps the community safe and secure.
Street lighting within the Dubbo Regional Council local government area is installed and maintained by Essential Energy. However, Council pays the electricity and maintenance bills.
Essential Energy is responsible for the maintenance and billing of more than 160,000 streetlights serving more than 86 Councils across New South Wales and parts of Southern Queensland.
REPORT STREET LIGHTING ISSUES
If you notice that a street light has been damaged or needs a new bulb please visit Essential Energy’s online portal or phone 13 23 91 (General enquires).
By reporting broken or faulty streetlights you are helping to create and maintain a street lighting system that is reliable, energy efficient and safer for the local community.
LED STREET LIGHT REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Street lighting is a significant expense for Council and we have been working in partnership with Essential Energy to upgrade Dubbo Region’s streetlight network to energy efficient LED technology.
So far approximately 90% of the Region’s streetlight network has been upgraded to new energy efficient LED technology, with around 88% of the network upgraded in 2020 and in late 2023 over 160 ‘LED globes’ were installed along Macquarie Street.
The LED technology will provide a more reliable, better quality street lighting service, and deliver energy and maintenance savings to Council and the community of close to 50 per cent per year when compared to traditional lighting technology.
