DUBBO ART FAIR THIS WEEKEND

This weekend the Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) will host over 40 local and regional artists to showcase and sell their art at the annual Dubbo Art Fair.

The event is now in its fourth year and has already established itself as the most significant art fair west of the Blue Mountains.

“The Dubbo Art Fair is a platform for local artists to gain exposure for their work and interact with the community to give people an insight into their creative process,” Dubbo Regional Council’s Curator, Kent Buchanan said.

“We don’t charge the artist for a stall, and we don’t take any commission on sales, so 100 per cent of the money goes directly to the artist. The role that culture plays in the economy cannot be understated, and the Dubbo Art Fair contributes significantly to this. The response from the artists that attend has been overwhelmingly positive. Spaces for this year’s event filled very fast with artists eager for the opportunity to sell their art.”

Local Dubbo artist Debbie Murray has been exhibiting at the Dubbo Art Fair since its inception and said the Dubbo Art Fair is a great opportunity to showcase your work in the one place and have an opportunity to talk to other artists in the local community.

“I create detailed pen and coloured pencil drawings or animals, birds and Australian botanicals and these are both framed originals and prints for sale at the event.”

“The Dubbo Art Fair is a fantastic event to see the talents of our local artists. It is a rare opportunity to see both emerging and established local artists and it’s the best place to find that new artwork to gift or adorn a space in your home,” Mrs Murray said.

The WPCC will also host a marketing breakfast for artists on Saturday 21 September at 8:30am to learn all about the skills and knowledge you need to market visual arts and creative practices. This event is free with bookings essential via 123tix.

The official opening for the Dubbo Art Fair will take place on Friday 20 September at 6pm. Tickets are $20 and can be booked via 123tix.

The event will be open to the community from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2024. Admission is free.

The Dubbo Art Fair is supported by Dubbo Regional Council and is an initiative of the Council’s SPARC Cultural Plan. Dubbo Art Fair is also supported through funding from Create NSW.
