DUBBO ARTIST SHOWCASES FIRST EXHIBITION
Dubbo artist Jodi Cramond will showcase her first exhibition titled Ornibiography at the Western Plains Cultural Centre from 25 May – 15 September 2024 as part of the HomeGround program.
Ornibiography is a mixed media exhibition that explores the relationship with birds and the similarities she views between her struggles with mental health and how society perceives beauty.
Cramond’s practice incorporates mediums such as clay, paint and carbon to transform and challenge society’s perception and definition of societal beauty standards. Ornibiography is a body of work that highlights the delicate and fragile nature of birds in relation to the human psyche, emphasising and appreciating their idiosyncrasies, as a way to transform current societal perceptions.
“My exhibition would be best described as a large flock of multimedia birds, all with their own idiosyncrasies and beauty. It is a culmination of my admiration of birds for their bravery in such a harsh and unforgiving world in their incredibly fragile bodies,” HomeGround artist Jodi Cramond said.
The official opening and in conversation event with artist Jodi Cramond will take place on Saturday 25 May from 2pm at the Western Plains Cultural Centre. The event is free, booking essential via the 123tix website.
“The HomeGround program is a wonderful opportunity that local artists can access to be guided in their practice. It is a great honour and I feel humbled to be given the chance to show what I have achieved.”
Ornibiography is curated by Mariam Abboud and is presented through the HomeGround program. The program supports the continued growth of a professional creative sector through training and professional development, as well as developing opportunities for creative co-working, mentorship and networking and professional development.
“Jodi’s collection is really thought-provoking and asks the audience to look beyond what the society perceived concept of beauty is and to not judge something on face value but look beyond the surface,” Dubbo Regional Council curator Mariam Abboud said.
“Jodi has really risen to the challenge of the HomeGround program and diversified her art practice, taking on new mediums to further explore her concept. Advancing an artist’s practice if one of the key objectives of the HomeGround program and it has been extremely rewarding to see Jodi grow as an artist.”
“Ornibiography is a collection of artworks that holistically conveys the meaning and intent set out from the beginning. It will no doubt raise questions about society views on beauty and to appreciate beauty in all different forms,” Ms Abboud said.
The HomeGround program is supported by Orana Arts and sponsored by Wingewarra Dental.
