DUBBO REGIONAL COUNCIL LEADER IN DA PROCESSING TIMES

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) is the top performer of regional city councils for processing times for development applications.

DRC averaged 55 gross days for processing and determining development applications in the financial year 2022/2023 and for the most recent financial year 2023/2024 Council staff were able to further reduce this timeframe to 52 days.

In comparison for 2022/2023 financial year Albury City Council had a processing timeframe for development applications of 102 days and Tamworth Regional Council had a processing time of 98 days.

“Dubbo Regional Council has been the top performing regional city council for development application processing times with 645 approved applications in the 2023/2024 financial year,” said Dubbo Regional Council’s Manager Building and Development Services, Darryll Quigley.

The NSW Government recently announced councils must determine development applications within an average of 115 days. This timeframe would continue to be reduced year on year by the government with the target to be reduced to 85 days in 2027.

“Dubbo Regional Council is well under the determined average processing time for development applications set by the NSW Government and has been year on year.”

“Council staff are focused on continuing the drive for business improvement and efficiencies in processing times for development applications, so whilst we are not surprised by the results, it is extremely pleasing to see our region grow and develop in a timely manner as a result.”

“Whilst we are well positioned in comparison to other regions, we remain committed to listening to stakeholders and are focused on the need to continually improve our service to community.”

For the month of June 2024 DRC approved significant development applications including a commercial shopping centre premises at 2 Stream Avenue valued at $24.8M, the Wiradjuri Tourism Centre at 2 Coronation Drive valued at $14.4M and a building for the Dubbo Christian School at 141 Sheraton Road valued at $6M.

“The continued investment in the Dubbo Region is a positive sign for our continually growing population,” said Mr Quigley.

It is estimated that from 2013 – 2023 the population of the Dubbo Region has increased by 6,801 people, which reflects a compound annual growth rate increase of 1.3 per cent.
