ENDEARING COMEDY DEAR DIARY COMES TO DUBBO REGION

Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) is set to receive Kay Proudlove’s endearing comedy, Dear Diary, later this month.

The one-woman show will take patrons on a journey into Kay’s teenage diaries through stories and songs. From first kisses and Spice Girls, to lost gigs, found memories, and frayed friendships, Dear Diary is a hilarious, sometimes painful revisiting of teenage years, delving into the pressures and expectations of growing up.

It is a comedy about the agony of growing up told through a collection of intimate, vulnerable and funny stories from her teenage diary.

Performing Arts and Venues Coordinator, Tiffany Rowland, said the DRTCC can’t wait to see the phenomenal NSW South Coast Singer-Songwriter bring her formidable talent and infectious personality to the local stage.

“Those who previously enjoyed Letters to Lindy, Maureen: Harbinger of Death and other thought-provoking dramas will enjoy this, as will musicians and women in the performance industry.”

“Not only does the show feature the mesmerising Kay Proudlove, but it is directed by the extremely talented Leland Kean (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As Luck Would Have It). I have seen the production three times: it’s real, relevant, and clever,” Ms Rowland said.

Kay Proudlove said Dear Diary looks at what people hold onto in their lives (both physically and mentally), why they keep those things and when is the right time to let them go, if ever.

“The inspiration for Dear Diary came from moving house and stumbling across the journals of my teenage years. The entries were heartbreaking, funny and vulnerable, which to me is a winning combination when it comes to writing songs and making art. Delving into this time capsule of teenage Kay naturally led to making comparisons between the past and present, which has been a strong narrative drive during the development of the show,” Ms Proudlove said.

Dear Diary will be performed at the DRTCC on Tuesday 25 June at 8pm.

Patrons can secure their tickets by booking online at www.drtcc.com.au, by visiting the Box Office, or by calling 6801 4378.

This production is supported by Theatre sponsor Maas.
