GET CREATIVE WITH THE BOOKMARK DESIGN COMPETITION

Put your creative skills to the test with Macquarie Regional Library’s bookmark design competition for children aged 4 – 18 years. The bookmark design competition is part of Children’s Book Week celebrations, which run from 17 – 23 August 2024.

The bookmark design competition is now open and will close on 15 September 2024. Entry forms are available from Dubbo and Wellington Libraries.

“We are looking forward to seeing a wide variety of designs from children and young people in our local communities. Last time we ran this competition we were blown away with the creativity and we are certain this year’s competition will be no different,” said Macquarie Regional Library Children and Young People’s Officer, Suzie Samson.

There are three different categories in the bookmark design competition: 4 – 7 years, 8 – 12 years, and 13 – 18 years. Once all the entries are judged, the competition winners will be announced, and the winning designs will be printed on to the bookmarks.

“These colourful bookmarks will be available in our local libraries and given to community members as they visit their local library branch and borrow books.”

To celebrate Children’s Book Week, Macquarie Regional Library will be sharing some of the shortlisted Australian children’s books at the weekly Storytime, Rhyme Time and Wriggle and Rhyme events in local branches.

This year’s Children’s Book Week theme is Reading is Magic and celebrates how reading stories has the power to transport minds and encourage kids to be curious about the wonders of the world.

“Our Storytime, Rhyme Time and Wriggle and Rhyme events are free to attend and aim to support literacy development and introduce your child to the wonderful world of books.”

“If you haven’t been to the library before we encourage you to bring your family in and see what your local library has to offer, it’s also free to become a member,” said Ms Samson.

To enter the bookmark design competition, visit Dubbo or Wellington Library and pick up an entry form. Competition entries can be returned to any Macquarie Regional Library branch. The competition closes 15 September 2024.
