JUNE COUNCIL MEETING MOVES TO THEATRE

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) will change the location of the June Ordinary Council meeting to the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.

The move comes as the decision on the operating model, including the results of the Expression of Interest (EOI), for the Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets (DRLM) is brought back to councillors.

During the May Ordinary Council meeting over 100 people attended to highlight their interest on the process, and Council staff are anticipating more community interest at the June meeting to hear the decision.

The EOI process follows a service review that was undertaken as a requirement of the Local Government Act, with Council required to determine an operating model that includes the ability to abide by existing legislation and regulatory obligations.

Dubbo Regional Council CEO Murray Wood said council staff understand the community’s interest in the importance of the decision that would be made by Councillors.

“Transparency around the decision is critical and we want the community to understand the process Council has been through and the decision that Councillors will make.”

“A public report highlighting the three options for Councillors will be debated at the start of the meeting, with a decision to be made on the future of the DRLM.

“The report detailing the results of the expression of interest submissions is included in the confidential section of the meeting to provide information to Councillors that is considered commercial in confidence in accordance with the Local Government Act,” Mr Wood said.

“This has been an ongoing topic of discussion since the service review was tabled at the DRLM Technical Advisory Panel in 2021 and we recognise the importance for any community members wishing to attend and listen to the Council meeting,” Mr Wood said.

“Staff, in consultation with Councillors, have structured the reports so as much information as possible is available int the publicly accessible business papers and considered in the open session of the Ordinary Council meeting.”

The June Ordinary Council Meeting will be held in the theatre section of Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre from 5.30pm.

Members of the public wishing to attend the meeting are encouraged to arrive at the venue early with doors to open to the public from 5pm.

Council asks the community to be respectful during the public forum session and during the councillor debate.

The meeting will also be live streamed to Council’s website on www.dubbo.nsw.gov.au.
