LOCAL ATHLETES RECOGNISED AT SPORTS AWARDS
Over 75 athletes from across the Dubbo Region have been recognised for their achievements of State or National selection in their chosen sport at the Dubbo Regional Sports Awards held on Friday 22 November at the Dubbo RSL.
The Dubbo Regional Sports Awards are an annual event that has been running for 22 years. It recognises the outstanding achievements of Dubbo and Wellington's most talented sports people of 2024 and celebrates the important people behind the scenes.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has been pleased to host these awards for the past 17 consecutive years in conjunction with Dubbo Regional Council. These awards are his last in his role as the Member for Parkes as he retires at the upcoming federal election.
“Congratulations to all the award recipients recognised at the Dubbo Regional Sports Awards; their achievements have been the result of hard work and dedication in their chosen sports and recognition at this year’s awards is a wonderful way to acknowledge their efforts,” Mr Coulton said.
“Our community have access to a wide variety of sporting opportunities in the Dubbo region which is definitely represented in this year’s awards, and I would like to congratulate all of the award winners and those who volunteer countless hours to ensuring sport is available for our community,” Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said.
Some notable mentioned of the Dubbo Region Sports Award recipients are:
- Haylee Fuller for her individual achievement in cycling. Haylee achieved international results with a silver in the U23 Road Race and Bronze in the U23 Time Trial and Elite Road Race Oceania Titles. Haylee also represented Australia at the Tour de l"Avenir Femmes and achieved a first in the Eeklo Criterium in Belgium.
- Declan McGregor for the individual achievement in water polo. Declan was selection in the NSW Under 17 Water Polo Team to compete at the National Championships.
- Ericka Keizer and Ollie Reynen for individual achievement in the sport of boxing. Both Ollie and Ericka have won numerous Australian and State titles in their respective divisions.
- Bernard Wilson received the John and Nita McGrath Award for exceptional contribution and service to the sport of rugby league. Bernard has been the driving force behind the growth and success of junior rugby league on the central west NSW for over a decade and had been the President of the St John’s Junior Rugby League Club for over 10 years. In addition to his role at St John's, Bernard served as President of Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League from 2020 to 2024, supporting the development of rugby league across communities in Dubbo, Warren, Cobar, Narromine, Nyngan, and Wellington. His commitment to the growth of the game throughout the region has been unwavering.
