OLD DUBBO GAOL TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS WITH EXCLUSIVE COCKTAIL EVENT
Dubbo Regional Council’s (DRC) Old Dubbo Gaol will be celebrating 50 years as a tourist attraction in November 2024.
The gaol, which first opened its doors to visitors in 1974, has become a popular tourist experience, showcasing an interesting, yet sombre, part of Dubbo’s history.
To celebrate the milestone, the gaol will hold an exclusive cocktail dinner event in November in which guests will enjoy canapes while hearing from current and former gaol staff, engaging with guest speakers and relaxing to the tunes of local music legend Allyn Smith.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the 50th anniversary milestone is an incredible achievement for the facility and thanked staff for their contributions over the years.
“The Old Dubbo Gaol is such an important asset to the Dubbo Region, providing residents and visitors a glimpse back in time and allowing them to learn about an important part of Dubbo’s past.”
“I offer a huge congratulations and heartfelt thank you to all gaol team members – past and present – who continue to make history come to life in Dubbo’s oldest tourist attraction,” Clr Black said.
Guests at the cocktail dinner event will also be privy to part of the Old Dubbo Gaol’s history, with the launch of the gaol’s new book, Sandstone Heart: The History of Dubbo Gaol, set to be a highlight of the evening.
Acting Old Dubbo Gaol Operations Coordinator Milla Ross said the new book has been rigorously researched.
“Sandstone Heart: The History of Dubbo Gaol will be sure to please history buffs looking for comprehensive details and residents with a keen interest in our rich local history.”
“Not only is it the definitive piece on the gaol’s history, but it has been researched and penned by the gaol’s very own Visitor Experience Officer, Chris Anemaat,” Ms Ross said.
The cocktail dinner event will be held on Friday 8 November at 6pm within the Old Dubbo Gaol.
