TEAMSTERS PARK TENNIS COURTS AND PLAYGROUND UPGRADES

An upgrade to the tennis courts and playground space at Teamsters Park in Montefiores will become a reality thanks to funding from the NSW Government.

Dubbo Regional Council was successful in obtaining the $521,059 from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF) to upgrade the facilities.

The funding will allow the current facilities to be replaced by a single tennis court with a multi-court surface, a new perimeter fence and sport specific equipment as well as the installation of a new playground.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said the new facilities would benefit the rapidly growing community of Montefiores and Wellington as well as support the nearby school.

“Members of the community have been lobbying Council and elected officials since 2019 calling for upgrades to the park and while there wasn’t money in our budget, this grant gives us the opportunity to secure the funds needed to complete these projects.

“This funding is a credit to the hard work staff put in for the grant application,” Clr Dickerson said.

The replacement of the court surface and the renewal of the playground will appeal to a wider demographic and assist those with accessibility needs.

“The addition of the multi-court services will also expand the range of sports that can be played attracting a broader range of community members to be able to use the facilities.

“The playground will include additional elements to support the use and enjoyment of the park which we anticipate will be used once again as a popular venue for community gatherings,” Clr Dickerson said.

Member of the Legislative Council Stephen Lawrence said the grant to improve Teamsters Park demonstrated the importance of the CRIF program.

“Across the state, our Government has invested $14.6 million to support 144 projects that will enhance reserves and facilities for the benefit of thousands of people in local and regional communities,” Mr Lawrence said.

“Teamsters Park is a vital community resource, and our grant will enable these important upgrades to take place that will ensure its longevity and continued appeal for everyone in Montefiores and Wellington.”

The tennis courts were closed in 2020 with the condition of the courts and surrounding fencing declared dangerous for public use.

Works are expected to be undertaken in the coming months and completed early in 2025.
