DUBBO AQUATIC LEISURE CENTRE GETS SIGNIFICANT PLANT UPGRADE
The Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre (DALC) is scheduled to receive a major upgrade to its plant over the coming months, ensuring the facility continues to meet the needs of the community.
Upgrades will occur to both the pool and water slide equipment and will include the installation of a new heat pump for the 50-metre pool, installation of variable speed drives for the water slide pump, installation of a new filtration system, new control panels and wiring, reparation of flooring, and a new slab.
Director Community, Culture and Places Craig Arms said the upgrades were necessary to ensure the facility provided the best experience for users and kept in-line with the region’s projected future growth.
“The DALC is a community asset, and we want to ensure it continues to provide the best experience possible each season for our swimmers, whether they be there for leisure, training, or competition.”
“With the Dubbo Region expected to experience major growth in the coming years, our facilities need to be continually assessed, maintained, and upgraded,” Mr Arms said.
This current upgrade, budgeted at $1.22 million, will address important changes in the guidelines for water quality in public pools, set by the Department of Health, as well as new laws related to safety at work under the Works Health and Safety Act 2011.
The DALC will close from midday Monday 31 March 2025 and is scheduled to reopen mid-September 2025. The Wellington Aquatic Leisure Centre and Elston Park Water Park will remain open until Saturday 26 April 2025.
“We thank the community for working with us to allow this work to be undertaken. The works will start on 1 April, and are scheduled to be completed by 16 August, 2025, depending upon weather. Belgravia Leisure will then need to train staff in the operation of the new system and the centre prepared for the start of the season in September,” Mr Arms said.
The DALC was originally constructed in the 1930s and has seen several upgrades over the years, including a major one in the early 1990s. The recirculation systems and associated systems including the plant room have remained largely unchanged since this upgrade.
The Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre is a facility of Dubbo Regional Council, managed by Belgravia Leisure.
