REGISTER NOW FOR DRAWN TO THE CENTRE 2025

Registrations for the Western Plains Cultural Centre’s (WPCC) Drawn to the Centre 2025 annual art program are now open.

The program provides free, open invitation drawing and sketching workshops that bring local artists in direct connection with community members interested in beginning their artistic journey or established artists looking to learn new skills.

This year, the Drawn to the Centre theme will be ‘memento mori’, which is a distinct artistic style that concentrates on the fragility of life and mortality.

WPCC Education Officer Rebecca Walker said Drawn to the Centre, which will occur over four weekends in February, is a great way for residents to try their hand at art or to expand on their current skills.

“If you’ve always wanted to try drawing or sketching, or even if you’re an experienced artist, you will get something out of this program.”

“You will be guided by experienced local artists Catherine Jones, Ruby Davies, Jack Randell, and Jude Fleming. Each brings their unique style to ‘memento mori’, and participants are set to gain a wealth of knowledge from working with them,” Ms Walker said.

The Drawn to the Centre 2025 theme ‘memento mori’ is inspired by current WPCC exhibition, Anatomy Lessons, by Michele Beevors.

“Drawn to the Centre 2025 will focus on sketching and drawing skills utilising the exhibition Anatomy Lessons by Michele Beevors in a memento mori style. This style was popularised by artists such as Albrecht Durer, and deals with the fragility of life and mortality,” Ms Walker said.

The Drawn to the Centre workshops run on Sunday 2, 9, 16, and 23 in February, and are free to attend.

Basic art supplies, such as pencils, paper, and pastels will be provided, however participants are encouraged to bring their own.

Limited seating and art boards will also be available.

Bookings open one week prior to each session. To book your free ticket to one or all of the workshops, visit 123Tix.
