SIGNAGE TO RESTRICT TRUCK MOVEMENTS ALONG SHERATON ROAD

Truck restriction signage will be put in place along Sheraton Road from January 31, limiting the times heavy vehicles can use the road during the day.

The signage will prevent trucks over 4.5tonnes using Sheraton Road during peak school drop off and pick up times of 8am – 9:30am and 2pm – 4pm.

A safety audit conducted of a proposed heavy haulage route through Blueridge Estate identified a number of high-risk issues around the safety of intersections, while congestion-based issues along Sheraton Road could be mitigated by limiting truck movements.

Under the new restrictions heavy vehicles will be able to use Boundary Road and Wheelers Lane during restricted times, diverting heavy haulage vehicles from the Sheraton Road education precinct.

Deliveries by truck to businesses or schools within the restricted zone may be undertaken as their destination is located within the school zone.

Funding will also be allocated to reconstruct and improve Sheraton Road, with the design process underway. Reconstruction of Sheraton Road will take place in the 2025/2026 financial year.

Under the NSW Road Regulation the new signage does not apply to buses and can be enforced by local police patrolling school zones during peak times.

The Heavy Vehicle National Law defines a heavy vehicle as one with a GVM or aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of more than 4.5 tonnes. Under the regulations trucks are only permitted past the sign if their destination lies beyond the sign and it is the only route.
