FILTER MAINTENANCE AT JOHN GILBERT WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) will undertake maintenance works to a further two filters at the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant to ensure the infrastructure is fit for purpose and meets operational requirements.
These works are critical to ensure the infrastructure is maintained allowing the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant to supply adequate drinking water that complies with NSW Health legislation and Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for the community.
“Programmed maintenance work is undertaken at the plant during the winter months due to the fact the town water consumption is generally at its lowest level,” Dubbo Regional Council Infrastructure Director, Luke Ryan.
The filter maintenance will start in mid-July and aim to be completed by mid-September 2023.
There are six filters at the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant. Two filters were replaced in 2019, two are being replaced this winter and the remaining two filters are to be replaced in winter 2024.
“The maintenance work being undertaken will not impact the supply of drinking water to the Dubbo Region, with works on the filters staged so that there is always adequate water supply available,” Mr Ryan said.
The filters play a very important role in the water supply process and along with chlorination, is the final process in treating water before distribution to the community.
The filter maintenance works are part of DRC’s Delivery Program to ensure water infrastructure and services meet the needs of the community.
