SEPTEMBER IS THE MONTH TO DREAM
This September will be much brighter when the Dubbo DREAM Festival makes a welcome return to Dubbo with a bumper program on offer.
The month-long festival launches on Sunday 3 September with Zoocoustics at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, followed by the DREAM Lanterns event at Victoria Park on Saturday 9 September.
“It is really great to see the DREAM Festival return to Dubbo after being on pause for three years due to the pandemic and flooding,” Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said.
“The DREAM Festival has always been a popular staple on the Dubbo Region events calendar and is a major draw-card for visitors to the region. With a huge program over the four-week long festival, it is estimated to inject $4 million dollars into the local economy,” Clr Dickerson said.
To kick off the DREAM Festival, grab a picnic rug and enjoy live music by local musicians, Elle Flanaghan, Sy Allen and Harriet Fahy. Headline act is Australian country music star Andy Penkow at Zoocoustics.
It’s the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day with a free event for all ages in one of the most picturesque settings in Dubbo.
The DREAM Lanterns event will have Victoria Park abuzz on Saturday 9 September from 12pm with market stalls, roving performers, gourmet food, and DREAMLand - a designated children’s area with activities to keep the kids busy.
The main stage will host some of the region’s best musical artists and performers.
As dusk approaches, event goers will line the parade route along Talbragar Street to watch participants march with illuminated lanterns and lantern sculptures to Victoria Park. Heralding the street parade will be a group of Taiko drummers.
The colourful lanterns have been created and decorated by school students and community groups in workshops facilitated by Jyllie Jackson from LightnUp Inc.
Other upcoming events as part of the festival include Glow Hard Fun Run, Devil’s Hollow Pub Rock and a Silent Disco.
