SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
Locals and visitors to the region will be spoilt for choice these school holidays with something for everyone to be found around the Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) Local Government Area (LGA).
DRC Mayor Mathew Dickerson said it was easy to keep kids of all ages entertained with lots of offerings in the region, often for little to no cost.
“There is so much to explore across the Dubbo Region with Council’s facilities offering plenty of opportunities to relax, get active and participate in an activity or workshop. Some experiences can be enjoyed with the whole family, whereas other programs are offered to young kids or adolescents.”
“I would like to remind our residents that some local attractions can be accessed for free or at a reduced rate if your address falls within the Dubbo LGA. You’ll receive free entry to the Old Dubbo Gaol, half price at the Wellington Caves and a discount at the Royal Flying Doctor Visitor Experience and Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The summer holidays are a great time to take advantage of this offer and play tourist with your visiting friends or family,” Councillor Dickerson said.
Below is a list of Dubbo Regional Council recreational facilities open throughout the holidays.
Parks, Gardens and Playgrounds
- Barden Park Centre of Excellence for Athletics – open daily 6am to 8pm
- Dubbo Regional Cycling Facility – open daily from 6am to 8pm
- Mugga Hill Mountain Bike Trail
- Dundullimal Mountain Bike Trail
- Tracker Riley Cycleway
- Powter Park BMX track
- Dubbo Skate Park
- Elston Park Splash Park – open daily 8am – 8pm
- Dubbo Regional Adventure Playground – open daily 8am to 8pm, Wednesdays from 12pm
- Dubbo Regional Botanic Gardens – open daily, Mon – Fri 7am to 5pm, Sat and Sun 9.30am to 5pm

Open daily except public holidays.
A variety of activities and workshops are offered throughout the holidays for children, teenagers and young adults between 3-21 years, including filmmaking workshops, board games, LEGO challenges, stories, and Minecraft.

Old Dubbo Gaol
Open daily 9am to 5pm.
Daily Characters in Costumes performances and Escape Talks; Family Twilight Tours and Beyond the Grave adults-only tours on selected days.
