TEMPORARY MAINTENANCE AT SHERATON ROAD COMPLETE

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has completed temporary road maintenance on Sheraton Road to improve the road condition and provide safer pedestrian access by linking the existing pathways from Boundary Road to the path in front of Dubbo Sportsworld.

The temporary maintenance works included three stages with drainage maintenance, sealed gravel footpath installation and heavy patching pavement repairs undertaken across a six week period.

“Works were completed on weekends and during the school holiday period to reduce the impact on traffic and school users in the area,” DRC Mayor Mathew Dickerson said.

The temporary road maintenance and drainage works have been funded through a planning agreement with DRC and Regional Group.

The temporary drainage works included cleaning out of existing roadside table drains to channel surface water away from road pavement. Minor heavy patching was also completed for two sections of Sheraton Road as a temporary surface treatment. The scope of works included a 450 metre long section across the full width of the road as well as another 20 metre by 7 metre section.

“Council has also installed 800m of bitumen sealed footpath along the western side of Sheraton Road linking the existing footpaths on Boundary Road to the footpath fronting Dubbo Sportsworld, which will provide a much safer journey for students walking to and from schools,” Clr Dickerson said.

The temporary footpath construction was part of DRC’s 2023/2024 Budget Delivery Program and Operation Plan with $80,000 allocated.

“The allocation of funds to the footpath followed the consultation of DRC’s annual budget and operational plan with Councillors listening to community feedback to improve pedestrian safety for school students and other pedestrians in the area,” Clr Dickerson said.

DRC is actively working on both a temporary and long term solution to divert heavy haulage traffic from Sheraton Road.

The long-term strategy is for the heavy haulage route to be via the southern distributor to the Mitchell Highway, with a proposed interim haulage route via Capital Drive and Blueridge Drive to the Mitchell Highway. Community consultation for the Blueridge Link Road construction has closed and will be considered at a future Council meeting.
