DUBBO AND WELLINGTON SEWERAGE REHABILITATION UNDERWAY
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has started sewer mains rehabilitation works, which will be undertaken across the Local Government Area.
Sections of Council’s sewer mains are almost 100 years old and require the works to remain functional while also improving operating efficiency.
Council’s sewer mains comprise of over 700 kilometres of infrastructure.
Council will be rehabilitating the existing infrastructure by utilising a relining technique rather than the previously used process of excavation.
Capital Programs Coordinator Paul Yeo said the process of relining the mains provides several benefits including being more customer friendly.
“Previously, such rehabilitation required excavation only techniques be undertaken, which is an expensive, high risk, and intrusive approach when considering that work is often required inside private property and at great depths.”
“Whilst some excavation will be required, the works are mostly performed by rehabilitating the sewer system via process of relining the existing pipes,” Mr Yeo said.
The relining technique also minimises the impact on local residents.
“This process improves the customer experience due to the limited requirement for by-pass pumping of sewage, reducing public exposure to potential health and environmental risks while also providing cost savings to Council in the process,” Mr Yeo said.
Rehabilitation works will be completed in Wellington before moving on to Dubbo.
All works are expected to be completed by approximately August 2024.
