SATURDAY NIGHT DANCE FEVER TO RETURN TO DUBBO REGION IN 2024
Do you remember the Saturday night dance scene in Dubbo in years gone by? It’s back once again with the Dance Maker’s Collective (DMC) to transform Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) into an ever-popular dance hall on Saturday 3 February 2024.
Attendees will experience a Big Band laying down dance classics, cabaret tables surrounding a pumping dance floor, nostalgic mood lighting and a couple of classic cars on display to set the scene.
In 2022 DRTCC hosted DMC’s The Rivoli which focused on contemporary dance styles; this year The Saturday Night Social will have snippets of contemporary movement cleverly and subtly woven through the traditional social dance night format.
Dubbo Regional Council Regional Events Manager Linda Christof said patrons of DRTCC had expressed a desire to attend regular dance hall social nights following the success of the 2022 event.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to come together and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere. You have the option of dancing to well-known tunes or sitting back, having a drink and nibblies and soaking up the atmosphere. You can book a table with friends or come on your own and be on the ‘Friends and Buddies’ (FAB) table,” Ms Christof said.
DMC General Manager Carl Sciberras said they were excited to be returning to Dubbo following their previous visit in 2022.
“The community there is clearly so enthusiastic about dancing together and to be able to facilitate The Saturday Night Social, an ode to a bygone era of social dancing, is an absolute joy. We can’t wait to dance with everyone.”
DMC will collaborate with dedicated local dance students who will form part of the performance. In addition, DRTCC is partnering with the Wellington and Dubbo Tin Roof Big Band who will take inspiration from the peak dance hall and disco eras of the 1960s through to the 1980s.
Doors will open at 6.30pm with the bar open throughout the evening. Patrons are encouraged to bring a picnic platter and dress up in the decade style of their choice. The band kicks off at 7.30pm with two hours of great entertainment including interval.
There are still several spots available for local dance students, 12 years and older, who would like to work with DMC in this production. Please contact DRTCC for further information. Patrons can secure their tickets by booking at drtcc.com.au, by visiting the Box Office or by calling (02) 6801 4378.
