ARTIST ANNE ZAHALKA FEATURES IN DUBBO

Summer at the Western Plains Cultural Centre will feature one of Australia’s most highly regarded photo-media artists Anne Zahalka. Her exhibition ZAHALKAWORLD - an artist’s archive will be on show in Dubbo until 2 March 2024.

ZAHALKAWORLD - an artist’s archive is a major survey exhibition centred around the artist’s archive and brings together key bodies of work that span Zahalka’s practice presented alongside collected treasures from her archive that inform and inspire her.

“The ZAHALKAWORLD exhibition is described as imaginative, immersive and playful. The exhibition invites the audience into the artist’s working life and her creative process to explore the illusionary worlds in which she is renowned for,” Dubbo Regional Council Curator, Kent Buchanan said.

“Her work explores cultural and environmental points of tension, interrogating them with humour and a critical perspective.”

Anne Zahalka has exhibited extensively in Australia and overseas for over 40 years. Her art is centred around deconstructing familiar scenes and re-presenting them, allowing for alternative narratives that reflect amongst other things, on cultural diversity within Australian society and the ecological impact of the global climate crisis.

“ZAHALKAWORLD is just one of four exhibitions currently featuring at the Western Plains Cultural Centre over summer. There is a really diverse range of exhibitions that are both though provoking and unique and well worth a visit.”

“The Western Plains Cultural Centre is a great place to visit during the summer to get a reprieve from the heat. Creo Café will be open as well, perfect for lunch and then a stroll through the gallery,” Mr Buchanan said.

ZAHALKAWORLD is a Museum of Australia Photography travelling exhibition.
