TAKE 3 – THIS IS IT! 2022 DRTCC SEASON LAUNCH
The 2022 Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) season has launched, with 22 touring shows culminating in two nights of live performances from one of Australia’s best known comedians – Kitty Flanagan.
The season launch was held at the DRTCC on Sunday with more than 230 people in attendance. While the launch was pared down in format due to COVID-19 restrictions in place for all theatres, the DRTCC team produced an entertaining event with performances from local singer / songwriter Justine Kuhner and pianist Raelene Burn.
“We are excited to present the 2022 Season of shows and after a turbulent couple of years due to the pandemic, we are looking forward to presenting the program in its entirety this time,” said DRTCC Manager Linda Christof. “We have packed the program with lots of kids’ shows, cabaret and comedy both at our Dubbo and Wellington venues."
The 2022 season sponsors are Kings Halls Jewellers and the theme; Take 3 – This is It! is a reference to the challenges faced by the industry over the past two years and the optimism felt by the DRTCC team going forward. It’s also because of a new initiative being introduced for season subscribers – where you can add on three tickets at a discounted rate for certain shows.
The subscription period is from Sunday 28 November 2021 through to Friday 28 January 2022. After that date all tickets go on general sale to the public. Subscribers can also purchase tickets to any additional shows in the season booklet throughout the year, at the discounted price. More information is on the DRTCC webpage Subscriptions
This year’s shows include the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, Shake and Stir Theatre Company’s adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, The Travelling Dance Hall at the Wellington Civic Centre, Swan Lake by the Imperial Russian Ballet Company, and The Rivoli where the audience will become immersed in the social life of dance halls on the 1930s. The season will come to a finale with one of the country’s best known comedians Kitty Flanagan performing over two nights in November.
There’s also a number of youth orientated shows including the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s stage adaptation of Margaret Wild’s book There’s a Sea in my Bedroom, another book – to – stage adaptation of Guess How Much I love You, and the sketch comedy ROFL (Rolling on the Floor Laughing), to name a few.
“The team is looking forward to opening their doors and welcoming patrons back to the theatre,” said Ms Christof. “There’s nothing quite like live performance and seeing magic created on stage.”
