BENOLONG BRIDGE OFFICIALLY OPENS

The new Benolong Bridge was officially opened today by NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison and Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black.

The project saw the construction of a new, concrete bridge to replace the ageing wooden bridge, which was at its end-of-life.

The Benolong Bridge upgrade project was jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program ($800,000) and Bridges Renewal Program ($1,075,000), the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program ($1,940,000), and Dubbo Regional Council ($802,975).

Replacement of the bridge brings a variety of benefits to the Dubbo Region including increasing accessibility and connecting residents in the area with Dubbo and Wellington and allowing increased freight transportation.

NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison said the investment in Benolong Bridge reflected the NSW Government’s commitment to building better regional communities.

“The new Benolong Bridge stands as a testament to our dedication to building resilient infrastructure that meets the needs of our communities now and into the future,” she said.

“This project is already supporting our vital agricultural industries and making the local transport network more efficient for local farmers.”

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the opening of the new bridge came at a perfect time, with this year’s harvest about to commence in the local area.

“The new Benolong Bridge is a terrific asset not only for the community at large, but especially for those involved in the local agricultural industry. The new bridge supports a much higher load limit than the previous bridge, ensuring local primary producers can transport their products with increased efficiency and safety.”

“I’d like to thank our project partners, the Australian Government and the NSW Government, for co-funding this new bridge. These projects help our local communities to connect and thrive.”
