Events deliver wide ranging benefits and with more than 600 events on the events calendar in 2024, the Dubbo Region is punching well above its weight with the staging of festivals, fairs and live music events delivering significant social and cultural outcomes.
Recent local events, such as Under Western Skies, the Dubbo Art Fair, and the inaugural Gurramurra Festival, highlight the eclectic range of options that residents and visitors alike can attend and enjoy.
Under Western Skies was established to support local live and original artists, creating a grassroots culture, and helping to position Dubbo as a music city.
Likewise, the Dubbo Art Fair, held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre, amplifies local artistic talent and provides a platform for promotion and sales of their works.
Meanwhile, Gurramurra Festival, which marks its first year in 2024, celebrates First Nation’s culture and Wiradjuri history and heritage.
Manager Regional Events Linda Christof said 2024 has seen several annual, time-honoured events sit alongside emerging, new events.
“The new and the old meld to create a diverse and dynamic annual program.”
“The social and cultural impacts of these events are due largely to the hard work of volunteers.”
“I’m always amazed at the calibre of events on offer in our Region. These events, delivered by passionate locals, play an important role in connecting our community, enhancing liveability and creating opportunities to share experiences through live music, the arts and our history,” Ms Christof said.
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) continues to support events across the region through its Events Assistance Program, such as the recent Dubbo Motorfest, which attracted 8,300 people through the gates of the Dubbo Showground.
“Coming up soon is the Cross Cultural Carnival which will add to our Region’s rich tapestry of cultural events. ORISCON Inc has exciting plans for October and Council is proud to be able to support the event under its Event Assistance Program,” Ms Christof said.
