TIME FOR SENIORS TO SHINE AT FESTIVAL
It’s time for the seniors living in the Dubbo Region to shine, with the NSW Seniors Festival being celebrated between 3 to 16 March.
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) will host two seniors’ events during the festival and have also put together a Seniors Festival calendar highlighting all the events happening across the Dubbo Region during the period.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the festival was important to celebrate and recognise the significant contributions made by older adults in our community.
“These events provide a dedicated space for seniors to connect, participate in activities, access information and feel valued while promoting positive aging and social inclusion across our region,” Clr Black said.
On Monday 3 March a Film Festival will be held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
“We are wanting our seniors to ‘be surprised’ at this event and we are encouraging everyone to attend and have some fun,” Community Development Officer, Seniors & People with Disability Rusan Hill said.
The film festival is a free event with tea, coffee and accompaniments provided.
An ‘In-the-Making’ Lifestyle Workshop for Seniors will be held at on Thursday 6 March from 9:30am to 3pm at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
“The workshop is another free event for our seniors that will offer a variety of different activities, hobbies and workshops for seniors to either view or participate in,” Ms Hill said.
A barbeque will be available for a gold coin donation, and there will be free coffee, tea and light food available.
Ms Hill said those interested didn’t need to RSVP, rather just turn up at the events.
“We would love to see as many of our senior members of the community turn up to both events, with free return transport from Wellington to Dubbo also being provided.”
Council has also developed a NSW Seniors Festival calendar for 2025, looking at events across the Dubbo Region available for seniors to attend during the festival.
“From Brain Training classes, Tech Help sessions and Tai Chi there’s something that everyone will enjoy taking part in on this year’s calendar,” Ms Hill said.
