ALMOST TIME TO PUSH PRINT BUTTON ON NEW AMENITIES BLOCK
Preparations are almost complete for the 3D printing of the new amenities building at Macquarie Lions Park West.
Demolition of the block has been completed with the new concrete slab in place awaiting the arrival of 3D Contour’s printing gantry on Saturday 8 July. The 3D printer is expected to commence printing the new amenities building from Monday 10 July.
All batching, mixing and installation of the building will be completed on site with the addition of oxide colour which will be added to the mix and is expected to eliminate the need for painting.
“This will be the first time Dubbo Regional Council has used 3D printing technology and it is hoped that if the trial is successful Council will investigate future opportunities to utilise the technology,” Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said.
“This project is on the cutting edge of technology, offering us a chance to see the future of construction as it happens. This method has the potential to revolutionise the way we build infrastructure and housing and Dubbo Regional Council is leading the way across the nation with this innovation being the first Council in Australia to utilise this construction method.”
3D Contour will print the structural component of the building including the printing of the walls, internal structure and roof. Following the 3D printing process the internal fit-out will be completed prior to reopening.
“In terms of impact on local traffic, we are expecting there will only be delays upon the arrival and departure of deliveries and equipment so the expected interruptions are very minimal,” Manager Major Projects Ian Whipple said.
“However we are aware that there will likely be a lot of locals wanting to see the process in action, so we’re asking those coming to look at the printing process to please be smart about where they drive and park around the site and follow any traffic management directions given by those working on the site.”
Council aims to have the Macquarie Lions West Park amenities building reopened in late August 2023.
